WE ARE THE CATALYST – “ELEVATION”
It’s power-, soul- and thoughtful. It’s heavy and melodic. It’s modern and in some parts progressive. The review could stop here.
But wait! There is so much more to tell about WE ARE THE CATALYST!
The Swedish band rises like a new star above the Metal Sky.
After their first release the band performed alongside to WITHIN TEMPTATION, TRIVIUM and SABATON, played gigs on the other side of the planet and made everything on their own. The album production? The music videos? It’s all made by the band members themselves.
Their second long player “Elevation” is again
a unique mix of metal and rock elements.
The voice of lead singer Cat Fey has an impressive and outstanding sound. She carries all the emotions, WE ARE THE CATALYST deals with. “Elevation” is a dark album, depressive. But the skill to fight out the darkness counts much more. That’s the main topic. It’s about the glim in the dark and how you can find it. “Elevation” creates darkness but not without lighting a candle. Beside Cat’s strong voice, the heavy guitar riffs, fast changes of rhythm and impulsive drums awarded “Elevation” a superb sound!
It is a perfect example how metal should sound nowadays.
The modern, clear and complex sound provokes the listener. There’s a lot to discover! And the catchy songs go straight into your brain and will stay there for a long time! I strongly suggest listening to the songs ‘Open Door’, ‘Askja‘ and ‘A Million Claws’. These three songs give a good overlook of WE ARE THE CATALYST’s repertoire. Sometimes it’s melodic (‘Askja’), sometimes it’s aggressive (‘A Million Claws’), sometimes it’s melancholic (‘Open Door’).
So: Go and buy this album! I promise you, if you like modern metal, you’ll love WE ARE THE CATALYST!

I’ve been told I need to listen to this band more and more lately. With simple and straight forward production, there’s not much getting in the way of the focus on strong songwriting here. Sweden always seems to churn out good stuff consistently. Thanks for sharing!
