UNLEASH THE ARCHERS – “Time stands still”
Time stands still
I’m sorry I have to say this: I tried several times to like “Time stands still”, the new album of Canadian heavy metal band UNLEASH THE ARCHERS, but I just don’t. The band seems to be ambitious and vocals, instruments and sound are quiet good, but the point is this band seems to want to much. And at the same time they don’t create something new. The lyrics deal with stories about warriors from the north and the melodies are good but indifferent heavy metal riffs.
Vocalist Brittney Slayes is talented and her style of singing is unusual for female fronted metal, but it doesn’t differ enough from male true metal vocals. From time to time there are also growls in the background which is too much for the sound. The guitars are fast and powerful, so are the vocal lines. Everything on top doesn’t improve the music.
Too vigorous for me…
UNLEASH THE ARCHERS try to create hymns like ‘Test your metal’, but all in all, the songs sound more or less the same. In my ears, this style of metal is obsolete. There are so many true metal bands on this planet who already wrote every interesting riff. At least, in ‘Dreamcrusher’ the band tries it with a ballad, but not consequent and it’s not enough to add variety to the album.
In sum, for people who like true metal and are not tired of this sound PLUS can stand the overload of impressions for more than ten minutes might give ‘Time stands still’ a try. I do not belong to them.
