TARJA – “Colours in the dark”
Colours in the dark
Colours in the dark has harder riffs, but still is artistic. Tarja inbuilts more heavy parts, but the album has of course also soft tunes.
Let’s rock again!
Tarja’s new album is heavier than “What lies beneath”. There are more head banging guitar riffs, the music itself is very strong, but never looses it’s artistic touch. Tarja of course is an artiste, who plays with dark emotions. The opener ‘Victim of ritual’ already combines all the elements on the album: it’s a fast song with hard riffs and Tarja uses her operatic voice in the chorus. But she also sings in more moderate pitches which gives the sound an earthy touch. However, Tarja does not loose her angelic aura.
Real life experience?
“Colours in the dark” wouldn’t be a Tarja album without sad melodies, given in ‘500 letters’ – lyrics to think about! Sounds like Tarja had kind of a stalker and sings about her experience. The following ‘Lucid dreamers’ turns to a really epic song with a catchy chorus with also softer melodies. The only song which does not really fit is ‘Mystique Voyage’ in which the vocals are operatic only. But it is still a very listenable song! One of the highlights is definately ‘Neverlight’. In four and a half minutes the music turns from catchy to dark and soft with Tarjas typical voice. Awesome!
Somehow, Tarja loves metal.
Tarja reinvents herself on “Colours in the dark”. Nevertheless, the album is originally Tarja. She shows the that part of herself that loves heavy music and metal riffs. The title fits perfectly, because the music has more colours now. Tarja developes as a solo artiste – let’s see to where this journey continues.
