SÜNDENRAUSCH – Interview with Kira Sinister
How has Sündenrausch been changed over the years?
I guess there is a strong development from our first album “Sündenstoff”, released in 2015, to the new EP “Schwarz wie Ebenholz”, from June 2016. We are increasingly consolidating our style and are becoming increasingly self-confident about our sound. But I find it difficult to put into words … one must listen to it.
Why are you two of the original line-up left? Is this the “new direction”?
No, there are other reasons. On the one hand 2013 Alex, the former keyboarder, left the band because of personal differences with other band members. Then drummer Miriam had not enough time, besides many other projects, for SÜNDENRAUSCH, so we decided to go separate ways. Later, she helped us again. At the end of 2013, it was then that I went abroad for six months. Finally, shortly after I came back, our bassist Henning moved away from Hamburg. So only Michael and I remained and we decided to start the project SÜNDENRAUSCH again in 2014.
Do you have a favorite song of the new EP?
I’m really hard on that! Live the song ‘Böser Wolf’ makes the most fun. I’m also standing behind the songs message 110%. But actually ‘Wunderland’ and ‘Schwarz wie Ebenholz’ share the victory in my heart – I love the choruses in both songs.
How did the crowdfunding action come about? Who was responsible for it?
We had noticed often that artists from our circle of acquaintances crowdfund campaigns sometimes more, sometimes less successful. We thought, why not try it? Without a label, funding for such a large project is extremely difficult. It was very expensive, but definitely worth it in the end. A nice side effect was the contact with the supporters.
Do you have a favourite animal?
Cats!
Is there always a bit of Kira in the songs, or can you become your imaginary figures and write from their view?
I think you inevitably always have something of your own personality in everything you create. With the SÜNDENRAUSCH songs I am often inspired by films, books or other songs and then try to link it with my own experiences.
Where would you like to shoot a video?
In New Zealand.
For which band would you like to be the supporting act?
IN THIS MOMENT or THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE.
Where does a musician have to perform?
There will probably be different opinions, but we would love to play at the Royal Albert Hall in London!
Will there be more dates for your tour?
Sure, more dates are upcoming – just have a look on our Facebook page once in a while!
Do you have vocal idols?
Yes, I do, especially Kate Bush! Really great also is Skin, the singer of SKUNK ANANSIE and most impressive is the vocal power of Maria Brink.
Will you continue with this myth/ fairy tale topics? It benefits you perfectly!
Oh thank you, I think we will still wander a little in the fairy tale forests and immerse in the stories sometimes more, sometimes less.
Your outfits are always great. Do you have a favorite piece?
I love my black Vokuhila dress by Peter Domenie, but also the corsage I wear in the wonderland video to the black tulle skirt.
The best concert you have ever seen?
SKUNK ANANSIE in Hamburg.
What is your favorite drink?
White Russian.
Thank you very much for this interview!
