STREAM OF PASSION – “A War Of Our Own”
A war of our own
When I listened to their 2011 release “Darker Days”, I honestly thought STREAM OF PASSION’s next album could not get much better. Man, was I wrong! Apparently the Dutch/Mexican band only needed some freedom to unleash their creative geniuses and rock some more!
Stream Of Passion definitely in their prime!
“A War Of Our Own” not only tops their last album, it shows the wonders of which SoP is capable. Dealing with the subject of struggle in all its forms, the thirteen songs on the album are intensely emotional without one bit of monotony. Instead there are a great variety of harmonies and rhythms, powerful riffs, soulful violins and dramatic keyboard melodies. But the cherry on top is the mesmerizing vocal work! Front woman Marcela Bovio delivers impeccable vocals, showcasing her wide range and educated technique in both English and Spanish – this is her strongest work up to date and definite proof of her steady growth as a singer.
Quality as usual.
Since this is a crowd-funded record, it may be important to note, that the quality of the production is excellent. But I wouldn’t have expected any less from such a professional band. And even though they show a huge development, compared to former releases, the album is STREAM OF PASSION through and through.
I could go on and on about this fascinating record, but you better judge for yourselves – it only takes one listen to be amazed! I will recommend, though, my personal favorites (in no particular order): ‘The Curse’, ‘Delirio’, ‘A War Of Our Own’ and ‘Don’t Let Go’.
