Kari Rueslatten – “The collection”
The Collection
Kari Rueslatten started her comeback in 2014 with “Time To Tell”. Now, she releases “The Collection”, a best-of album with songs from her five solo albums. Kari paused for nearly ten years – “The Collection” is a kind of 20th anniversary album and with ‘Why so lonely’, she goes back to her musical roots with The 3rd And The Mortal. For this new version, Nightwish’s Tuomas Holopainen played the piano.
The kind of music Kari did after parting ways with her former band is more or less folk with only little instrumentation. Most charateristical is of course her light and high voice which is always impressive in an emotional way. The whole album is arranged with acoustic instruments but with some electronic influences on ‘River’ and ‘Exile’ from “Pilot” album.
One of the most beautiful voices of the universe.
Naturally, “The Collection” is a very calm and soft album containing ballads, ballads and even more ballads. It is not metal – the only connection is Kari herself. But it is an amazing piece of art and you can lose yourself in the music and escape to your dream world. Kari’s style in music did not change during the years, also the songs she recorded after the break fit perfectly into the best-of. The only difference is that all the songs on “Time To Tell” are in English – no song in Norwegian.
As a special, there are also two live songs which were recorded during Kari’s tour for her latest album: ‘Trollferd’ and ‘Nordnatt’ from her first solo album “Spindelsinn”. They are also acoustic and complete a very peaceful album. “The Collection” is good if you want to calm down and just listen to a beautiful voice. No drama, nothing heavy, just a wonderful singer who sings beautiful songs.
