PHANTASMA – The deviant hearts
First output of a phantastic project
A small but bright star rises above the symphonic sky. Well it’s exactly not a small star, if three successful genre-musicians build up a new super-group. Charlotte Wessels (DELAIN), Georg Neuhauser (SERENITY) and Oliver Philipps (EVERON) are the driving forces behind the symphonic rock musical PHANTASMA. Their debut album is called “The Deviant Hearts” and based on Wessels’ debut novella ‘The Deviant Hearts’ – which was written especially for this project.
‘…a soulful long player, which is filled with a mixture of tears and screams of love and loss’
The music is – how surprising – a carpet made of melodies and the melancholy voices of Wessels and Neuhauser. Apart from them the album crowns with some awesome guest musicians. Tom Englund (EVERGREY), Cloe Lowery (TRANSSIBERIAN ORCHESTRA) and Dennis Schunke (VAN CANTO) contribute their vocals on different songs. Jason Gianni (DAREDEVIL SQUADRON/ NEAL MORSE BAND/ TRANSSIBERIAN ORCHESTRA), Randy George (NEAL MORSE BAND/AJALON) and Tom Buchberger (ex-SERENITY) complete the musical project.
This colorful selection of musicians leads to an emotional and soulful long player, which is filled with a mixture of tears and screams of love and loss. It seems that Wessels explores a new dimension of her voice and on some parts, one can’t overhear that Neuhauser and Buchberger a part of the project. The resemblance to some SERENITY-songs is obvious. Nonetheless, they are going a new path with the poppy ballads ‘Try’ and ‘Carry me Home’.
All in all, it’s a great album you can hear again and again and still like it after the 20th listen.
For everyone, who likes great instrumentation, melodies and voices: buy the album, you will have no regrets!
