EDGE OF PARADISE – “Immortal Waltz”
Nothing to compare to this band.
EDGE OF PARADISE’s metal is so special, you’ll hate it or love it.
First things first: “Immortal Waltz” is an album you will either throw out of your CD player/Spotify playlist or have it in repeat mode for weeks. Margarita Monet‘s vocals are so special, you might have a preference for it or not. In most of the songs, she’s shouting more than singing. This is how she has found her own style and something to make the music unique and unmistakable. But as I said, you really have to like this kind of vocals!
The music is progressive and heavy. Most songs are pompous and wild, sometimes with little hints to well-known melodies (e.g. ‘It’s My Show’). There is always a bit theater and drama in the songs. In the title track, EDGE OF PARADISE use Hammond organ. In ‘In A Dream’, Monet partly sings a bit differently. She proves that she can also do ‘normal’ vocals. In my opinion, it’s the best song of the album.
Heavy metal with a lot of details.
‘Rise Of The Fallen’ is another example for the vocalist doing something else than just shouting. In general, EDGE OF PARADISE pays a lot of attention to details. Melodies of instruments that are not typical for metal are used here and there – not too much to draw a lot of attention, but nice if you notice them. Musically, the band does a really good job, which you cannot depreciate. Solid heavy metal.
During the album, EDGE OF PARADISE lose their dramatic touch but pick it up again with ‘Ghost’ – a slow and dramatic song with some choirs. ‘Break Away’ is one of the weaker songs, which didn’t necessarily had to be put on this album. The sound is a bit pale, too. All in all, “Immortal Waltz” is an interesting album that you should pay attention to if you like unique vocals and classical heavy/progressive metal.

Great album, and their new EP (rel 10/03/17) is also a great listen.
Have been waiting for an opportunity to see EOP live for a couple of years so the FemME announcement was a dream, looking forward to the shoe and counting the days.
