BRUNHILDE – “Behind My Mind”
This album is so catchy… it’s almost too catchy.
Hard rock from Germany – you should give BRUNHILDEunte a try!
It sometimes happens when I hear someone talking – well, it happens quite often, depending on how many interviews I listen to. But for the first time while listening to music, I knew at once: OK, that person is from Germany – Germans have a typical accent when they speak English. But fun fact aside, BRUNHILDE are fun listening to.
The music is easy listening and although I expected some criticism on society, the lyrics don’t deal with heavy topics. When reading through the band’s (short) history, it becomes clear that the musicians just wanted to free themselves from duties and play the music they want to play. Likeable, right?
Devils, demons, unicorns.
One problem that comes with easy melodies is that you might not remember them afterwards. Vocalist Caro‘s voice is catchy and the vocal lines stay in your brain for a while and there are also good riffs, but to be honest – I didn’t remember much of the music after listening to “Behind My Mind” for the first time, which isn’t necessarily bad. I have a high motivation to listen to the album more than once, because I know I can experience it again and again.
What you can always do is play the album at a party. The title track, ‘Bootycall’ and ‘Dealing’ are danceable and bring some rock’n’roll spirit to every party – that’s for sure! In fact, there is some critic on society which you can also see when reading the song titles. But it’s not full of it like when listening to the good old punk bands. There are also topics typical for rock: demons and the devil. And a song called ‘Unicorn’.
Fast, rocking and entertaining.
Only one song on “Behind My Mind” plays more than four minutes. The 13 songs on the album are kind of quickies and will be fun in every playlist. With a duration of 45 minutes, the album ends very quickly for a metalhead like me. But I still see myself driving in my car listening to BRUNHILDE, imagining I’m somewhere on a highway.
In general, “Behind My Mind” is a very good album – good musicians, good production and a vocalist that is not too special but nice to listen to. In times of Spotify, I can totally recommend listening to BRUNHILDE. And if they play in a town near you, check them out! These fast songs live on a stage must be awesome!
