ALYZEE calls herself the queen of oriental rock, but I’m happy we stopped choosing genres for our reviews, because I’d definetly struggle with tagging her music. Oriental – yes, of course. Rock – hmmm… I’m not sure! As you can see on the album cover, ALYZEE likes the rock star style and it suits her very good! But I’d describe the music as poppy and groovy. There are some riffs that are really good, but her voice and the other instruments are not rock at all, neither is the album production.
Not metal, but…
Anyway, I like the album! “My life” is full of emotion and passion. And if you watch impressions from the album release party, you can hear that the songs have the potential to be rock songs – when the right guy is on guitar and mixer. The lyrics seem personal and convey serious topics and things, everyone struggles with every day.
So if you are open-minded and open-hearted, give ALYZEE a chance! Some songs have a rock music note even on the album, e.g. ‘Kill with me”. Other songs are beautiful and touching like the ballad ‘All my lying’. There are several slow songs on “My life” – what about listening to ‘The search’ with your not-metal boyfriend or girlfriend? Sounds like a romantic evening!
Give it a chance!
ALYZEE has an amazing voice and even if you are not a fan of oriental sounds, you might like it. The oriental part doesn’t overload the music. It’s there but it fits and isn’t insincere. You can hear the variation of her voice in ‘Believe’. If you need a proof that she can do it live, too, just watch the clip below!
“My life” is a beautiful piece of music. As I said, it’s not metal or rock, but something in between pop and what people might call rock nowadays. The album is groovy and poppy – and definetly worth giving it a try! But be careful… ‘One wish’ might stay in your head for a veeery long time!
