It seems TARJA never takes a break from touring. Recently, she did some “Act II” release shows in South America and also played some concerts in the U.S. – now she’s on a 21-date European -Tour with STRATOVARIUS called“A Nordic Symphony”. I attended the tour kick-off in Frankfurt.
Although it’s a co-headlining tour, TARJA and STRATOVARIUS still have a supporting act. In SERPENTYNE they found an extraordinary band, which opens the evening with some medieval and folk sounds.
It’s always a little bit annoying when a gig doesn’t start on time. Security said, it was because the soundcheck started too late and the bands were very relaxed. Well – it’s not the worst of conditions for an unforgettable night if the bands are relaxed on the very first night of a tour. For the die-hard fans, who arrived very early it’s not so nice to be waiting for such a long time at the entrance – it’s exhausting.
Supporting act SERPENTYNE started at 8 pm – this was going to be a very long evening. The Medieval/Folk Metal band from Great Britain surely perform a unique combination, which might not be everyone’s taste. The band did a great job, however, and showed in this short time how multifaceted is their music. The sound could be a little bit better but it was the first show of the tour and with time and routine it usually gets better. SERPENTYNE was allowed to play a little bit less than half an hour. It’s hard to say, if this was their normal playtime or if the setlist was cut due to the delay.
STRATOVARIUS played a perfect and impressive show.
The break between SERPENTYNE and STRATOVARIUS was quite short. It seemed now everyone was in a bit of a hurry. The band started a little bit before 9 pm and with their show, all delays were forgotten. It seemed all fans woke up and were full of energy to rock the evening together with STRATOVARIUS and TARJA.
What a show! It was my first STRATOVARIUS concert ever and I was very impressed! This band has something calm but still rock the stage. When you see the band, all the members seem so pleasant and it was so much fun to watch them play their set. Great sound and the light show looked so beautiful from a distance. This show was what you can call a perfect concert! Again: not sure, if their setlist was cut due to the delay, but STRATOVARIUS played around 60 minutes. Too short for such a great band and such an amazing show!
It also didn’t feel like 60 minutes. A pretty amazing band that should get more attention in Germany. The crowd in Frankfurt really gave everything and the mood in the venue was outstanding! It’s a co-Headlining tour, but sometimes it’s easy to see which band has more fans in the crowd. At this show, sure TARJA’s die-hard fans were in the front-row but besides them, you really can’t say which fan base was bigger. Both bands do symphonic-metal, both bands are from Finland and both bands have a great singer with an outstanding stage appearance. The hearts of the fans beat for both! After the show, there was a long break to make the stage ready for TARJA.
TARJA’s concerts are always on such a high level that you really can’t find bad things worth mentioning.
The waiting seemed endless. Especially when you see the stage is actually ready but nothing is happening. But when TARJA appeared it was the bomb! What a hot outfit! Black leather pants (or something which looked like leather), a black corsage with rivets and, as always, very high heels! It remembered me a little bit of Catwoman but without the cat mask. Pretty hot and it suited her perfectly. Even if the show was not good, it was worth to visit the show only to her in these clothes! But the show was amazing, like always! TARJA always does perfect shows and this one wasn’t an exception. Great sound, great voice, and every note was on point!
You can’t attend a show of hers and go home disappointed! Every concert of TARJA is a highlight! On the performance itself, you never find anything to criticize. With her smile, she enchants the audience every time she performs. She really loves what she does and you can see how happy and grateful she is. It’s a gift to watch her performing and see so much happiness. At TARJA‘s gigs, you always see the same faces in the first rows. Her fans are very dedicated to her and bring on good vibes during her shows.
My only point of criticism was the setlist, which was noticeably written for a 70-minute show, including twelve Songs but in the end, it was only about 60 minutes and the setlist was cut. Always sad and every concert-goer should get the same length of the show. But due to the fact, that it was the start of the tour I can ignore this. It’s a live show. Things can go wrong. People could arrive late. There are many, many reasons why on this day everything was a little bit delayed but the shows themselves were on a high level with nothing to complain.
Although the show was shorter than her normal sets, TARJA changed her clothes 3 times. She really doesn’t need to do this, because no matter what she wears she looks great and also her smile is so big that you can’t miss it and you look more at that happy face than at anything else.
STRATOVARIUS and TARJA kicked their “A Nordic Symphony” tour at a very high level.
If you want to search very deep, you can say, the sound in the first rows was not perfect but that’s a typical front-row-problem. With a little distance the sound was great, also the light show looked beautiful for all bands. Altogether a very nice evening! The Batschkapp in Frankfurt is a very nice and popular location – always worth a visit!
