10th ANNIVERSARY TOUR: AMBERIAN DAWN, DIABULUS IN MUSICA – Hanover (17-02-2017)
Two bands that have been playing Symphonic Metal for ten years and have similar styles teamed up to tour together in of celebration of this special year: AMERIAN DAWN and DIABULUS IN MUSICA with support from CRIMSON SUN. We visited Bei Chez Heinz in Hanover to be part of this birthday party and talk to the bands. But first the live report:
The Finnish band CRIMSON SUN were in fact the oldest one in the line-up. Since 2001 they have been playing Melodic Metal and tonight begins with them. The bandmates are young (nope, sadly they aren’t vampires but have had many line-up changes) and so is their music: fresh, dynamic, energetic and the surprise of the night! There aren’t many people at the location yet, but they’re missing out. CRIMSON SUN plays in front of 30 people and on a small stage, as well as they would in front of 200 listeners. With their modern and guitar dominated sound it was a nice contrast to the following Symphonic Metal acts.
Setlist CRIMSON SUN (support)
The Storm
Clockwork Heart
Towards the Light
Awaken
Forever and away
Memories Burning
A few more visitors come up and DIABULUS IN MUSICA enter the stage. I didn’t have high expectations for the sound because Bei Chez Heinz is a small rumpus room and DIABULUS IN MUSICA make very ambitious orchestral music. But against my expectations, it’s very well done! The sound is as good as in a bigger club and the band gives its best! Zuberoa‘s impressive soprano reached high notes like a siren but never gets too introverted. The whole band interacts with the audience and creates a great, familiar atmosphere. So the die-hard fans collect in front of the stage and bang their heads like there’s no tomorrow.
Setlist DIABULUS IN MUSICA
Battle of Atlantis
Earthly Illusions
Lies in Your Eyes

And the fans stay there until AMBERIAN DAWN‘s stage time. The spotlight definitely is on Capri, the singer is a bundle of energy and seems to always be in a good mood. Her live vocals are sometimes overacted, but with her lovely appearance, it’s forgiven. The mastermind of the band, Tuomas Seppälä, is sadly not as extroverted as Capri and much more focused on his keyboard than on the audience.
The songs represent the ten years of AMBERIAN DAWN: ‘Valkyries’, ‘Fame and Gloria’, ‘River of Tuoni’ and ‘Arctica’ are classics of the band’s repertoire and obligatory on the setlist.
