T-shirt modification #1 – quick and easy
DIY shirt tutorial
This is a tutorial how to make a sweet and sexy girlie shirt out of a man’s band shirt in a quick and easy way. Have fun! (author: Nadja P.)
The Problem.
Typical scene: your favorite metal festival just ran out of girly t-shirts and you get a huge men’s shirt, which you could actually use as a dress. Now don’t panic! It’s not that difficult to make it more figure flattering.
Take a shirt that is too big for you. (I chose a men’s shirt size M.)
The process.
Turn it inside out and cut off the sleeves and collar (it works very well with dressmaking scissors). Important: cut off the sleeves behind the seam, to make sure that they won’t rip.
I’ve cut the collar under the seam, so that the neckline will be wider. Often that’s enough, but of course you can cut off a few more centimeters. After that you should stretch the new neckline a bit, then the fabric will curl. It isn’t that important how exact the neckline is cut.
That’s what it looks like after cutting everything off.
Because the fabric overlaps a bit, you should simply put the endings under the shirt to make the sleeves smaller. Now you can leave it at that or….
… pin the sleeves at the top with a baby pin, if it’s too loose for your liking. Now the sleeves are fixated.
Another variation is to take a little stripe of fabric and knot it round the sleeve. I took a piece of the cropped sleeves of another shirt. That’s why it sometimes makes sense to keep fabric remnants.
The result.
And now it looks like this. Of course you can do it at the other side as well or adorn the shirt differently. There are no bounds to your creativity.
