Ginger Nuts – Recipe
Today on the plan: Ginger Nuts. These small German cookies are easy to make, the result is an intense, tasty pastry for the Christmas season. The most difficult part of this recipe is the patience you need – it takes two days 😉
Ginger Nuts – Ingredients
120g sugar beet syrup
50g whole cane sugar
80g margarine
160g wheat flour
1 tsp. baking powder
60g ground hazel nuts
Aaaand, the most important: your spicery!
Take as much as you like. I took about one teaspoon of every spice.
White Pepper, ground
Ginger, ground
Pimento, ground
Cardamom, ground
As well as
Powdered sugar (approx. 100g) and the juice of two lemons
Cook the syrup, sugar, margarine and spices together for one minute.
Mix in the flour, baking powder and nuts and knead it well.
Leave the dough in the fridge overnight.
The next day you can roll little balls out of the dough and bake them
for around 10 min at 180°C.
The almost finished Ginger Nuts will be done, once you mix an icing
out of powdered sugar and lemon juice. Ice the freshly baked Nuts
and let them dry overnight.
Enjoy the result with family and friends and happy Christmas!
