M&H Wedding special #2 – The Wonders of a custom made dress: a first hand experience.
Wedding special
It’s a very important day if not THE important day. Let’s talk about weddings!
Wedding dress – the first thing you think of, after getting engaged.
In the so-called “wedding industry” there is the term “cookie cutter wedding” and it refers to nuptials celebrated in quite a conventional matter. You know, the Hollywood thing: big elegant church, round reception tables with picture perfect flower arrangements, etc. – the opposite to a themed wedding for example. And those huge white dresses have their own term, too: “off-the-rack”.
And in case you indeed plan a themed wedding or just want a unique dress for the special day, well why not go the custom-made road? I did. And it was worth every penny. And yeah, to be honest it was about three times the price of an off-the-rack dress I tried at a sale, but that one didn’t really fit in my Medieval Wedding.
The dress of my dreams.
Since I had been admiring the amazing work of Dutch designer Ingeborg Steenhorst’s – dressing my favorite bands – for quite some time I didn’t doubt she would do a great job with my wedding dress – and she did. First I told her about my theme plans and sent her some pictures of different dresses I had liked on the Internet. She totally got my ideas quickly and sent me a design-sketch right away. And it wasn’t the sketch of any dress. She made it super practical: it’s two dresses in one, so that I can wear a red evening dress again later and the long train folds up, making it great for dancing. To sum it up: unique and practical wedding dress no one but me will ever wear, quality handwork and therefore a happy bride with a clean conscience about the fabrics and the work conditions of her attire.
Worth everything.
My now husband and I made the 200km-trip across the German-Dutch border quite a few times this year, to see my dream dress come to life, which was also totally worth it, since Ingeborg is a totally kind and interesting person. On September 28th she presented her new collection to the public with a stunning fashion show full of music, color and metal at FemMe in Eindhoven. You can see some of the presented outfits below, but you still should wish you were there – the music, both the live performances and the music played for the catwalk, complemented the colors and textures of the clothes so beautifully, it made me tear up a little. In the following audio-interview Ingeborg tells us about the preparation the show took, her work in costumes for the video game KARMAFLOW and about her work as a bridal designer.
