“Insurgent”: Good sequel, but many parts of the book are left out. – Movie Review
Insurgent
Good sequel of Divergent, but many parts of the book are left out.
Well, if you haven’t watched Divergent before, you’ll be completely lost while watching Insurgent. The movie makers don’t lose any time explaining what happened before or where Tris and the other characters are. So let me explain: after stopping the antagonist Jeanine and her followers from killing Tris’ former faction Abnegation, she and her boyfriend Four, her brother Caleb and Four’s father Marcus and Peter, another former Dauntless flee to the Amity’s place.
Tris suffers from nightmares because she killed her friend Will, more than that she misses her parents who died to protect her. To help her getting over it, she cuts off her hair what looks pretty cool and better than I expected! Tris, Four and Caleb can’t stay at the Amity’s place because Eric, the second antagonist, comes to catch them and so they go to a place where we (and Tris) find a big surprise…
Okay, I should not tell you everything about the movie. This is what happens within the first 15 minutes of the movie. We rush through the story that differs a lot from the book. It is basically okay for the movie but many interesting story lines and characters are left out. They also changed some circumstances for the movie for better understanding.
A touching story.
The movie is about guilt and self-forgiveness, but also family, friendship and deep wounds that might heal. It’s a touching story and the end makes you want to know how the story continues without being a really nasty cliffhanger. And we get to know the other two factions Candor and Amity.
And the pictures are awesome! I am not a fan of 3D but in this movie it really makes sense. There are wonderful details and the environment is beautiful! I wonder how much money they spent on effects.
Insurgent is really worth to be watched (in general, in cinema, in 3D) and I am happy I know the books! Nevertheless, I am looking forward to Allegiant to see the story in this beautiful pictures that come close to my imagination and are even more colourful.
Special tip: try to follow the story from Tobias’/Four’s point of view. That makes it even more interesting and emotional.
