James Dashner: “The Death Cure” – Book Review
The story comes to an end.
James Dashner focusses on these five characters now, which is good because they become kind of real friends for the readers, instead of mates. For the first time, the boys see the real world without Cranks. But peace won’t last long. The new founded group has to take part in politics and work together with rebels.
The third book of the series is very dark…
… but in the end – of course – all turns out good. More or less. There have to be some sad, emotional scenes to keep the story going and to not loose the former style of the books. Again you really can imagine everything as if you see it through your own eyes. That’s what makes the books so good!
Even if Thomas doesn’t want his memories back, the reader gets to know a lot about his former life. And in the end it turns out that even W.I.C.K.E.D., who threatened the characters so much, is not only bad. The story is even more tricky and this is the important point which differences Dashner’s dystopia from a fairytale. Nothing is just good or bad and in a way, Thomas’ enemies act logically. The Maze Runner Series is a complex story but Dashner manages to make it as understandable as possible.
In addition, you can read The Maze Runner Files. A book with about 50 pages containing information about The Flare, W.I.C.K.E.D., the time before Thomas enters the maze and parts of other character’s stories.
